The seminar entitled “Women, Peace and Security: from resolution to action. Ten years of Security Council Resolution 1325” will take place on Wednesday, 15 September 2010 from 09:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room XII at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The seminar is organised by The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF).

In the context of the tenth anniversary of Resolution 1325 in October of this year, the seminar will take a critical look at its impact and the progress in its implementation. The seminar will also present a timely opportunity for refocusing on the important role of women in conflict prevention, conflict resolution and peacebuilding. The issues that will be explored include actions taken by the international community at a political level to translate Resolution 1325 into action; the impact of the resolution for post-conflict reconstruction, governance and civil society and; monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.

The opening keynote address by Ms. Micheline Calmy-Rey, Federal Councillor and Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, will be followed by a panel discussion and informal exchanges with the invited audience of high-level representatives of the diplomatic community in Geneva, United Nations entities, non-governmental organizations and prominent think tanks. Active participation by all is encouraged. A closing keynote address by Ms. Navanethem Pillay, High Commissioner for Human Rights, will conclude the debates.

The working language of the event is English, and simultaneous interpretation into French will be provided. Registration required.
