Milestones: 2015 High Level Review

In October 2015, the Security Council held a High-Level Review on Women, Peace and Security in honour of the 15th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325. The Review included a Security Council debate on October 13th and an independent Global Study launched on October 14th, 2015. The Review presents a critical opportunity to increase women’s meaningful participation in conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts, as well as ensure the protection of women's human rights. Though this milestone is a notable source of inspiration, we must continue to move forward and leverage these milestones toward action on translating commitments to accomplishments.

The purpose of the Review was to assess progress at the global, regional and national levels in implementing Resolution 1325 (2000), renew commitments, and address emerging obstacles. Many actions, initiatives, and events took place around the world marking the 15th Anniversary.

WILPF actively hosted events and activities to ensure that the voices of global peacemakers' were reflected in the Global Study. WILPF held three consultations with civil society - two in New York and one in The Hague. WILPF also launched an independent report with recommendations and good practices from various civil society organisations, academics and research institutes for the Global Study.

How can we best use the High-Level Review and the 15th Anniversary to move the implementation forward, to realise action and to impact change?
