Women, Peace and Security - the Afghan View

The conference will focus on the issue of women, peace and security from the perspective of Afghanistan, including the cooperation between civil and military actors. Its aim is to give an overview of the main achievements and challenges facing the implementation of UNSCR 1325 in Afghanistan and discuss the way forward in the immediate aftermath of the deliberations and possible further steps by the UN Security Council on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of UNSCR 1325. The aim of the conference is to provide a forum for high-level discussion between policy makers and experts from states, international organizations, and civil society organizations.

Confirmed speakers at the conference include Elisabeth Rehn, Minister of State, Finland, Stefanie Babst, NATO Assistant Deputy Secretary General, Urmas Paet, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Riina Kionka, Advisor on Human Rights (CFSP) and Head of Human Rights Unit, Council of the European Union, Sarah Rose-Sender, Manager of the Legal Aid Fund, Kabul, Ella van den Heuvel, ISAF gender adviser, Najia Zewari, UNIFEM (UN WOMEN) Afghanistan Country Office and Annelise Ebbe, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.
