The meeting of the National Coordination Group On "National Action Plan for 2012-2015" on implementation on UN Security Council Resolutions 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960 "On Women, Peace and Security” was held at the Parliament of Georgia. The meeting was organized by the Gender Equality Council and the UN Women Organization. The Members of the Coordination Group spoke about the activity, implemented within the National Action Plan, directed to facilitation of women participation in security and peace-building and consideration of women needs in conflict prevention.

The Deputy-Chairperson of the Parliament, the Chairperson of the Gender Equality Council, Rusudan Kervalishvili introduced the results of the surveys, conducted by NDI on gender issues. She noted that OSCE ODIHR and Venice Commission introduced the recommendations to Georgia, aimed to increase women participation on every decision-making level.

She spoke about the changes, subject to introduction to the Criminal Code of Georgia, which were initiated by her. According to her elucidation, due to the fact that statistics of domestic violence in Georgia is rather high, the necessity emerged to criminalize domestic violence. As she stated, adoption of changes to the Code will facilitate adequate response on domestic violence facts and will provide prevention of domestic violence.

Rusudan Kervalishvili stated that she, along with the NGOs, will leave for Belgium to attend the Conference on Implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution N 1325 "On Women, Peace and Security”. "We plan a speech at the Belgium Senate to introduce the National Action Plan, which in capacity of an example, will be shared within the scope of the region. In this case, region does not include solely South Caucasus and geography is extended, which is very important”, - she stated.

The representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, Security Council, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Reintegration and the civil sector introduced information on activity, implemented thereby within the National Action Plan.
