Albrecht Schnabel is a Senior Fellow in the Research Division of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). Anara Tabyshalieva is an Assistant Professor of History at Marshall University and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Regional Studies (Kyrgyzstan).
WILPF's Vanessa Farr contributed to the book, which seeks to examine how women in recovering societies can be both victims of violence and marginalization and also integral facilitators of the peace process. Through case and country studies, particularly with an African focus, the authors argue that when women become activists and participants in post-conflict political, social, economic and security structures, they are "defying victimhood."
